When I visit a new place, whilst I love to explore, there really is nothing like a bit of local knowledge. Which is really the point of these blogs. Of course, it’s a hard job, making sure that I’m up to speed on all the local hostelries and eateries, but a sacrifice I’m willing to make. So it’s really worth checking out past blogs, and of course do ask if you want to know anything specific. I know where you’ll probably see a kingfisher, where Jane Austin lived, which pubs are kid or dog friendly, a local tailor, best pub gardens (The Willow, The Globe in Alresford). And if I don’t know, I probably know a man who does!
Winchester is a beautiful place to explore seeped in History, culture and beautiful countryside, so much of which is accessible by foot from the BnB and the Prince of Wales Apartment. You can download a city walk here www.visitwinchester.co.uk/listing/city-walk/ which includes King Alfreds last resting place, the City Mill, River Itchen, Wovelsey Castle, Winchester College, Jane Austins residence, Kings Gate, and Winchester Cathedral. And this lovely walk is little over a mile long. I really can’t overstate the local beauty and there several longer Winchester walks on www.walkingworld.com, if you’ve bought your walking shoes.
We’re just around the corner from the Theatre Royal, The Railway Inn (great for live music), and The Discovery Centre. A short walk to all the city centre, but if you want to save your shoe leather or browsing time, just ask the local! Don’t forget to follow us on facebook and instagram for some inspiration!
